I thought my last post for the year would be different – a bit lighter, perhaps. But yesterday someone asked me why I write as if I am running out of time. I didn’t know what to say. I hadn’t even realised it myself.
Then it hit me.
I write all these stories and thoughts because I really feel like I am running out of time, and I feel that urgency every single day.
I write because I have a daughter and I want her to live in a world where she feels free, safe and able to decide what to do with her body and her future. I want her to live in a world where respect is not a privilege but a given – where men stop treating women like shit.
I write because no matter how hard I try I feel that I haven’t done enough to convince people to care more about this fragile planet we call home. I now have a grandson and I know the threats climate change will have on his future. So, no, I can’t slow down. I won’t. I’ll keep writing until the words turn into change – because time isn’t a luxury I have to spare.
Wishing you a joyful and fulfilling 2025.

This hit me hard. Same motivation — for both my daughter and son.

I share these concerns. Having taught about the environment and climate change for 25 years, I have been despairing about the slow responses. And I have been worried sick about the dought in my native Crete. A result of climate change everybody was saying. Very grateful just now that fears about the drought persevering appear to have been allayed, at least for now. Plenty of rain and snow has been falling at last. The pitter patter makes my heart sing! May it long continue!
