Hi, I’m Athena Drakou
I’m an independent researcher and environmental scientist working at the intersection of environmental science, political history, and geopolitics. I am particularly interested in the history of climate change politics and how ideology and competing perspectives influence climate change policies.
Why I am here
One day someone said to me that I write as if I am running out of time. He was right. I carry that sense of urgency with me every single day — a constant feeling that I am running out of time. I write because no matter how hard I try, it never feels like enough to make people truly care about this fragile planet we call home.
That’s where this newsletter comes in.
Do I need to pay subscription?
No. All content is and will always be free.
But it would be nice to subscribe or make a small donation to support my research and writing. The Climate Historian is an independent publication, entirely supported by readers like you.
If you can’t find the newsletter, check your spam folder. And please mark this address as ‘not spam.’ If the newsletter isn’t in your spam folder, either, you should look in the Promotions tab.

Mistakes
I try hard not to make mistakes, including minor spelling or grammar mistakes or broken links. However, time for research and writing is limited, and I do not have an editor, so it is possible to find mistakes. If I am fundamentally wrong about something, I will acknowledge it in the post's comments section.
